Fall. Falling. Autumn. As in Awe. Awesome. And, yes, awful. As in Awe full.
Every Autumn shows up as a time of reckoning. Especially this year, yes? It's time to cut to the chase. Cut the crap. Hold onto our hats. Fasten our seatbelts and tuck away our valuables before this roller coaster takes the plunge. We all know some of what's coming. And we're all living into the mystery of what we don't - and can't! - know yet.
Autumn comes with unique blessings and challenges. It can take our breath away - maybe more noticeably this year. It can recalibrate bio-rhythms like breathing. It can tax our immune systems, it can also fortify them. It can clarify what really is essential - and empower us to let go of what's not
These three classes offer simple practices
to hone our capacity to do this.
Our Lungs, Colon and Skin are all profoundly affected - and tested! - by the Season of Autumn. Asian Healing Arts recognize that these systems share the crucial task of holding onto what's essential and letting go what's not. They clarify that fine line between what I need to get rid of and what I can't let go without losing myself - or my life. We're talking about what's survivable and what's not. Physically, emotionally, Spiritually. Core.Level.Essential.Values. Some things are negotiable. Some things are not
Treasures we've had to part with this over past year show up more poignantly come Autumn. We register what's gone missing more deeply as the world around us lets go in all the ways we'll witness in coming months. Grief can catch up with us suddenly and take us by surprise. And it needs to surface. Trapped grief compounds pain. It can compromise our lungs - and immune systems!
The rhythm of breathing is what allows us to let go a little bit at a time. Just one breath at a time some days. Especially this year, when the letting go we're experiencing is unlike any we've ever known.
These classes present simple, movement and meditation practices
+ To help us catch our breath when it's gone missing.
+ To clear the air in and around us.
+ To catch our unique rhythms.
+ To fine tune our exchange with all that's around us.
+ To clarify and protect what we hold most dear, and
+ To reconnect with what we hold sacred.
Ancient Chinese warriors used these 'Qi Gong' practices to catch their breath - and balance. With fuller breathing, we can better meet any foe. We're more able to 'blow off' what's toxic - or infectious! And we have our best shot at being who we're here to be and doing what matters most. Starting with staying alive. Right thru to our last breath.
Learning these practices often feels like remembering something long forgotten. They can have palpable benefits in a matter of minutes. Sometimes seconds! Like easier breathing or released tension. With practice they can improve balance, clear mental fog and give us easier access to what inspires us.
In times like these, it can be inspiring just to know that small choices can make a noticeable difference.
This three part series of classes will help you make the most of what this Autumn has to offer. We'll cultivate our breathing and tweak our rhythms. For a better shot at taking in exactly what we need and letting go all that we don't. Students will have the option to 'show up' or to listen and watch without being seen. Although online classes come with some challenges, for these practices the screen may not be an obstacle as we breathe all together.
Beginners are welcome. Practitioners can easily teach these practices to clients remotely and/or to support their in person treatments.
These instructional videos will be presented one per week thru the first three weeks of October. Each hour-long class will be accessible for the entire week and is designed to allow easy replay of individual practices.
If you like, you can also join me in live time for an interactive class at noon on the Equinox, Tuesday September 21 2024.
These classes are part of a year-long cycle of Seasonal Qi Gong classes. Prior classes are not required to benefit from classes in any one season.
Winter/Kidney Qi Gong Classes will begin in January.

Meet Cynthia Zanti Jabs, L.Ac.
Cynthia 'Zanti' Jabs has taught Qi Gong to students and clients for decades. She started teaching online this Summer.
"I love how these tools gently undo symptoms of body, mind and spirit.' Working WITH the laws of nature can unlock our capacity to heal, even with chronic illness and old injuries.
"My 'specialty' is creating ‘take-home’ practices' so clients further their healing on their own. "DIY Acupuncture!" They extend treatment benefits and make remote consults more effective.
"Healing is not just about relieving symptoms. Needles, words, music, movement, all of these help us reclaim who we're here to be. Our symptoms guide our way - and fade as we find it."
"Asian HealingArts let us unfold the gifts of each season in turn. As we reconnect with natural cycles we can focus on specifics without losing sight of the whole."
Zanti has taught acupuncture students (MUIH) medical students (JHUSM), doctors, clients and beginners. She is nationally certified (NCCAOM) to teach credit courses for acupuncturists.
Her acupuncture practice is based at Ruscombe.org where you can read her blog "Healing with the Seasons.'
